The raid at the offices of National Herald in Bengaluru was conducted at 9.30am on Wednesday.
This is the second raid by the NIA and the DRI on National Herald in less than a year. On May 20, 2018, the same investigation agencies conducted raids at the premises of the publisher of English daily newspaper Herald, alleging that Rs 139 crore had been siphoned off in a fake transaction.
It’s learnt that the NIA and the DRI have taken the newspapers and magazine copies for their investigation. If further raids are conducted, the NIA and the DRI will check whether the articles have been altered and whether any articles have been deleted.
Further, the NIA and the DRI are evaluating the content of the articles to ascertain whether any articles have been deleted.
It’s learnt that this action is in line with the Supreme Court’s order to investigate the companies running the ‘black money’ swindle in India.
The arrests of the Prannoy Roys — Bhaskar Roy and his elder brother Tejas — have led to numerous companies, businesses, politicians and bureaucrats being put under the scanner.
The NIA is probing alleged money laundering cases.
The agency had issued a notice for investigation last week on the two Roys, 24 companies and two Oman-based entities.
The Enforcement Directorate, which is conducting the probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, was roped in to investigate the case. The agency already has nearly 200 witnesses, including employees of the Congress-linked firms – Young Indian and Indian Heritage – and Congress MP Sanjay Nir 0b46394aab
